Slate: Cancer Research Is 'Broken'

The U.S. government spends $5 billion every year on cancer research; charities and private firms add billions more. Yet the return on this investment—in terms of lives saved, suffering reduced—has long been disappointing: Cancer death rates are drifting downward in the past 20 years, but not as quickly as we’d hoped. Even as the science makes incremental progress, it feels as though we’re going in a circle.

As a scientist, at some point when researching what causes cancer, you are going to be on a collision course with the GM lobby and the vaccine/pharma lobby. If you want your career to continue, better run in circles like a headless chicken, rather than take them on! Else you get the Andrew Wakefield treatment...or worse if you happen to find a cure!

Seriously, we need to educate people so that scientists can more safely expose this corruption. The royals seem invincible to cancer...how? And why won't they share with us?
